Rachelgbd, you are so right!

i really honestly think that sex ed in high school, even comprehensive, isn't enough. i firmly believe that you need to start talking to kids about reproductive health and anatomy as soon as they notice the penis/labia thing. i do get frustrated w/ parents who think that hiding sexuality from kids is going to somehow protect them when they leave the home nest. teach morality of your choosing, sure! just make sure you include all the facts. tell them you wish they would wait until they were married b/f engaging in sex, but tell the that if they choose not to wait, you want them to be safe. w/ sex ed in the condition that it is in right now, do you really want to leave the safety of your child's sexual future in the hands of gagged by federal funding teachers?

i started talking about the birds and the bees when my Kid, who has been in co-ed daycare/school her whole life, and had seen during her diaper/toilet training years the differences in anatomy, and asked about it. we have used some great age appropriate books to teach her. it's not just about sex that we need to teach kids. i am shocked at how many grown women still think that you pee out your vagina. oy w/ the poodles already!

thanks for stopping by!

It's so important that stories like this get more press, because as obvious as it seems that message just never gets played like it should and people go right on believing that talking to kids about safe sex will make them start getting naked in the middle of geometry. I don't get so frustrated with your average parent as I do with abstinence only educators who have to know the real science behind all this and have to know that they are essentially responsible for killing kids.

Teens are gonna have sex.

PERIOD.

It is a natural function of being human. Social mores be dammed, biology wins everytime.

Jeez, didn't these people see The Blue Lagoon?
