Election Day Prep…

Since The Kid is learning about the Presidents in school, I promised her that she could accompany me on election day.

Any tips from parents who already do this as to how I make this more fun and educational (even w/ my obvious political slant) for her?

I just wanted to say that it is great that you are taking your child with you to vote. Mayhem and Destruction have come with us to vote since they were in strollers. Not enough parents do that. We don’t face the long lines that you do. In fact I have never had to stand in line to vote, so there was no real need to entertain them.
This last election Destruction wanted to know which party we were voting and why. So we just explained to him our different stances and by the time that was over we were done.

This is my first time voting in Hawaii, and the first time I have voted in person in a while (I voted absentee in the last election while I was stationed in California). The very first election in which I voted was quick and painless…I went as soon as the polls opened, cast my vote, and caught the bus to the Mongolian BBQ where I worked.

I think I am going to try to take her to the early voting site on Monday. Make a morning of it, and lunch, and then take her back to school. She has been craving a special “Mommy and [Kid] day”, so I think this will do nicely. She is a bit of a chatter box, so talking about it might pass the time nicely for her!
