I love reading your thoughts on military matters, it's a culture I have very little direct experience with (though both my grandfathers served in some capacity) and so I really appreciate your opinions on this stuff.

I would say, just to the LGB vs LGBT, I don't know for certain at all, but could it be more that people don't think the DADT efforts are going to help trans service members like it will LGB ones? That's just a guess though.

[...] Let’s Talk About Lt. Dan Choi… « random babble… "What I can say though, is that in response to thoughts like “is this just a publicity stunt” is that someone who would do something like appear at a civil disturbance and chain themselves to the White House fence in their uniform, knowing full well what the UCMJ expects of people wearing uniforms, is not just doing this for attention. You do not go running into that situation without thinking that through. Dan Choi has crossed from That Officer Who Was Discharged Under DADT to That Officer Who Went to a Demonstration in His Uniform. He could possibly be brought up on charges under an Article 92." (tags: race DADT military protests activism) Share and Enjoy: [...]

Honestly, I thought that what he did was so incredibly courageous. There can be no doubt that he will pay a huge penalty for what he did. I don't understand how anyone can even question his credibility, really this is how change happens, good people putting themselves on the line while others wait passively on the sidelines. There is also no shame in what he did because whatever penalty he receives is a reflection of our shame I think for having such a bigoted policy in the first place.

Thank you for this. It is really more irritating that I can even begin to articulate that conversations surrounding military issues usually involve people who have not served talking about the military, as opposed to people who have served or are serving. Major group sites which want to have conversations like this could solicit guest bloggers and there's no reason not to when they ask guest bloggers to discuss other topics they are not expert in. Why should the military be any different? Especially since it is not like *ahem* people are not available to talk about it.
